Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique*
Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique (SMRT) is a gentle, positional release method that directly influences the nervous system regulation. The practitioner uses a soft touch to place your muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues into a position of comfort. By holding this precise, passive position for 20-45 seconds, the therapist signals the proprioceptors—the nerve endings that tell your brain about your body's position—to "reset".
This allows chronically tight muscles to release without the need for deep tissue or painful pressure, resulting in a feeling of deep relaxation and lasting pain relief from tension. With SMRT, we can significantly reduce muscle tension, increase range of motion, and decrease pain and tenderness, even addressing chronic pain and stubborn issues like trigger points without directly touching the area. This gentle method is effective for a wide range of concerns including headaches, migraines, TMJ, back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and hip pain.
